Vocal Music Teacher

It's inherent in all we do,
what we dream,
how we believe,
whom we love and the quality of our work.

For it is little else than the rhythm and process of
the Universe,
including the individualization of the creatures
the earth.

It is Life!!!

Mrs. Crenshaw-Ellis
is in her 18th year as a vocal music teacher, 5th year at C.T.E.S..  She is an East Orange native and a former East Orange School District student, attending Columbian School.  She has taught in West New York, East Orange (1998-2003), Berkeley Heights and  North Plainfield receiving tenure in all districts. Mrs. Crenshaw-Ellis attended Westminster Choir College as a Voice Performance Major and is a summa cum laude graduate of Montclair State University where she earned a B.A. in Music Education. While at Montclair State University she was the first recipient of the Jeanne Wade Heningburg Scholarship for the Arts and as a result was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.  While still a student at MSU, she toured Eastern Europe with a small group of select students performing a show called "Jumpin' Jammin' Jazz" as ambassadors of the state of New Jersey.  Mrs. Crenshaw-Ellis was part of the original cast of the off-Broadway musical the"American Girls Revue" in New York City and remained in that show for 3 years.  She has acted in local theatre prodcutions, a notable one being "Dessa Rose" with 4th Wall Theatre where she played Dorcas.  She has been working as a free-lance vocalist in the New York tri-state area for 20 years.  She is the owner/operator of "Jewetones" and co-owner and operator of "Higher Ground Entertainment" providing music for all occasions.  In 2002 she earned a Master's degree in Vocal Jazz Performance from William Paterson University and received the Graduate Music Achievement Award.  In addition, she was named an outstanding vocalist by Down Beat magazine.  Her Demo CD "Invitation" has been played on 88.3 WBGO.  Mrs. Crenshaw-Ellis is passionate about music literacy and her love of vocal music is infectious.  She works very hard to infuse her love of music into the classroom and to help each and every one of her students to find the beauty in their singing voices.  She considers it an honor and privilege to work with the students at Cicely Tyson Elementary School.   She currently resides in Orange, NJ with her husband, Kevin Ellis bassist and her two sons Malcolm and Akhir.
